A great ride never the less, narrow roads, tight car passes and finishes with a rocky water splash.

1936 Scott Flying Squirrel riding up Healy Pass.

Some moisture got in the camera (during battery changes) and the lens has condensation on it leading to poor picture quality.

1921 Indian Scout following a 1914 Williamson riding down from the top of Healy Pass.

46th Irish Motorcycle Rally

Posted by pre31 on August 23, 2012

Well we arrived at Castlerosse Hotel Killarney on Sunday evening and were directed to our accommodation for the week it was to be a triple share hotel room and we ended up with a villa unit complete with ensuites, kitchen, washer, dryer, dining room – sheer luxury compared to what we were expecting.  We are fully catered for the duration with 3 meals a day provided, the rally is huge and extremely well organised.

Day 1 of the rally consisted of over 200 km of roads varying from B and C to narrow tracks. The route transversed magnificent scenery and it was agreed by all 3 Aussie riders that it was the best riding ever.

Day 2 turned out to be even longer and better than day one. The route of over 280 km had sections so rough and slow that we were riding for 9-10 hours – the photos speak for them selves. The weather could have been better but then again it could have been a lot worse.

Day 3 was another big day of almost 200 km, taking in mountain passes and beautiful scenery.

Day 4 was a shorter day of around 130 km but again stunning scenery.

At the final dinner our riding group/companions were presented with:

Eric A – 1st Place Veteran Motorcycle

Peter M – 1st Place Vintage Motorcycle

Carl M – 3rd Place Vintage Motorcycle

Dave, John and Carl were also presented with a bottle of wine each to recognize the effort made  and distance traveled to enter the Irish Rally. It was so good we are already planning our return.
